From toddlers to teens, there is tons for kids and youth to do at the Boston Book Festival 09, presented by State Street. All the featured sessions below are FREE with no reservations required.
StoryPlace with children's authors, storytelling and costume characters including Curious George. This is great for younger children. 11:00 - 4:00 at the Boston Public Library
A Tribute to Chris Van Allsburg (The Polar Express, Jumanji) will be celebrated in a session that includes an excerpt from Festival Ballet Providence of their adaptation of his book, The Widow's Broom.
For kids around 8 and up, there's a session on Cryptozoology, with authors talking about the Loch Ness monster, dragons, and other legendary characters.
Join storytellers Jay O'Callahan and Irene Smalls for the session Spinning a Tale.
Teens will especially enjoy the Spoken Word Showcase featuring Boston high school and college students performing their own and others' poetry.
Outside on the plaza there will be kid-friendly booths with many activities from exhibitors including the Boston Children's Museum, 826 Boston, and State Street Corporation. Look for costume characters (including performers from the Boston Ballet's Nutcracker!) and have books signed at the State Street Corporation booth.
When hunger hits, try some free samples! We'll have chowder from Legal Seafoods (1:00-3:00pm), ice cream from Brigham's, water from Poland Beverages, and C-O-F-F-E-E from Green Mountain Coffee (for the grownups, of course).
Plus, dance to the sounds of a variety of live bands all day from 10:00am-6:00pm on our Festival Stage.
Come for fun for all ages!
