Author, composer, and recording artist William Banfield is the author of several books including Landscapes in Color: Conversations With Black American Composers and Cultural Codes: Makings of a Black Music Philosophy. His newest book is Representing Black Music Culture: Then, Now, and When Again? His music has been commissioned, performed, and recorded by numerous orchestras, including the National, Altanta, Detroit, and San Diego symphonies. Banfield is a professor of Africana Studies/Music and Society and the director of the Center for Africana Studies at Berklee College of Music.
