Sarah Bakewell is the author of three books: The Smart, The English Dane, and her most recent, How to Live: Or, A Life of Montaigne in One Question and Twenty Attempts at an Answer, winner of the National Book Critics Circle Award for Biography. The Guardian called How To Live “a superb, spirited introduction to the master,” while Salon characterized it as “suavely enlightening.” She lives in London, where in addition to writing, she teaches at City University and catalogs rare book collections for the National Trust.
