Prominent Jane Austen scholar Rachel Brownstein is a professor of English at Brooklyn College and the City University of New York Graduate Center. Her latest book, Why Jane Austen?, explores the many facets of Austen as a writer and beyond and also explores the modern-day Austen fans who strive to carry on her work. In examining Austen, Brownstein was called by the New York Times Book Review "a superb critic, seen at her best when illuminating Austen's mastery of significant detail." Brownstein's previously published books are Becoming a Heroine: Reading About Women in Novels and Tragic Muse: Rachel of the Comédie-Française.
