An accomplished classical pianist and poet and a sophomore at Harvard, 19 year-old Noni Carter has always cherished history and with her first novel, Good Fortune, she hopes to inspire her generation to embrace with pride the rich legacy of black history. The winner of the Parents' Choice Gold Award, Good Fortune is a slave narrative woven through the remembrances of Ayanna Bahati, an African-American slave in the 19th century. This stirring debut novel from a young talent is largely inspired by the real-life experience of Noni’s great-great-great-great grandmother.
