Neri Oxman, PhD is a designer and researcher whose work establishes a new approach to design at the interface of computer science, material engineering and ecology. She is the founder of an interdisciplinary design initiative, MATERIALECOLOGY. A graduate of the AA School of Architecture and previously a medical scholar at the Hebrew University and the Technion Institute of Technology, she is currently based at MIT where she is a presidential research fellow in Design Computation.

Transcending disciplinary and professional boundaries, Oxman's work pioneers a design paradigm beyond purely formal expression that engages creation through the lens of computational form-generation.  Her work, Natural Artifice, has recently been displayed in the Museum of Modern Art’s Design and the Elastic Mind exhibition, and is now part of the museum’s permanent collection. Her most recent exhibition entitled: Neri Oxman: At the Frontier of Ecological Designis on display at the Boston Museum of Science. Oxman has won multiple awards for her research including the HOLCIM Next Generation Award for Sustainable Construction, a Graham Foundation Carter Manny Award, the AICF Award of Excellence, the Harold Horowitz Award, the International Earth Award for Future-Crucial Design, a METROPOLIS Next Generation Award, and many others. Oxman has given numerous classes, workshops and public lectures at MIT, Harvard, Cornell, Georgia-Tech, UC Berkeley, and at professional institutions such as the American Institute of Architects NY, SOM, and KPF.

Her design, research and art have been published widely and she continues to engage in design research featuring new initiatives at the intellectual and productive interface between science, art and design. Neri has recently been recognized as a Revolutionary Mind 2008 by SEED Magazine, featuring her collection of work and research in design. In 2009 she was honored by ICON as one of the top most influential designers and architects to shape our future and by FASTCOMPANY as one of the 100 most creative people.  In September 2010, Oxman is due to establish a new research group at MIT’s Media Lab based on her work and research in design computation.
