Lawrence Douglas is the James J. Grosfeld Professor of Law, Jurisprudence and Social Thought at Amherst College. His writing has appeared in the New York Times Book Review, the Hudson Review, McSweeney’s, and the New Yorker, and he is a regular contributor to the Chronicle of Higher Education and the Times Literary Supplement. He is the author of a number of scholarly works on legal history and theory, including an acclaimed study of war crimes trials, The Memory of Judgment. In addition, he has published The Girl with the Sturgeon Tattoo (under the pen name Lars Arffsson), a parody of the Stieg Larsson novel, and coauthored a book of humor, Sense and Nonsensibility. Douglas's two novels are The Catastrophist and The Vices.
