Deval Patrick is the governor of Massachusetts. A graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Law School, Patrick is originally from the South Side of Chicago. He has worked as a civil rights advocate for the NAACP, held senior executive positions with Coca-Cola and Texaco, and served as Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights in the Clinton Justice department. His new book, A Reason to Believe: Lessons from an Improbable Life, is a reflection on his life thus far. He seeks to instill optimism and hope by telling his own story. A Reason to Believe has already received widespread critical praise, with Kirkus Reviews calling it "a welcome celebration of idealism in a cynical time."
