A graduate of Brown University with degrees in Psychology and British and American Literature, Brian Lies studied drawing and painting at the Boston Museum School at the Museum of Fine Arts.

His political cartoons and editorial illustrations have been published in the Christian Science Monitor and the Boston Globe, and his work has also been featured in children’s magazines such as Cricket and Ladybug

He has illustrated more than 20 books for children including four solo efforts, Bats at the Library, Bats at the Beach, Hamlet and the Enormous Chinese Dragon Kite, and Hamlet and the Magnificent Sandcastle, which have all been New York Times bestsellers.  In his much-anticipated fifth book, Bats at the Ballgame, the bats are at it again, this time enjoying the pitcher’s mound and batters box.
