Councillor Ayanna Pressley is the first woman of color to be elected into the Boston City Council. In keeping with her historical impact on the Council, is also chairing a new standing committee, the Committee on Women & Healthy Communities. She serves as the Vice Chair of the Arts, Film, Humanities & Tourism Committee as well as the Vice Chair of the Public Safety Committee. She has been an active leader in the nonprofit community on issues involving women, girls, and diversity. She has also been involved with groups such as the Massachusetts Women's Political Caucus and the Children's Trust Fund. Pressley has been recognized by Ebony magazine, The Root, the Boston Globe, NARAL Pro-Choice Massachusetts, Big Sisters of Greater Boston, and others as a rising leader with a vision. She currently lives in the Ashmont-Adams area of Dorchester in Boston.
