Annette Gordon-Reed is a Professor of Law and History at Harvard University and is the Carol K. Pforzheimer Professor at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study. Her book The Hemingses of Monticello: An American Family won the Pulitzer Prize for History and the National Book Award for Non-Fiction in 2009. She received the 2009 National Humanities Medal from President Barack Obama and was named a 2010 MacArthur Fellow. In its citation, the MacArthur Foundation noted that "Gordon-Reed is shaping and enriching American history with an authentic portrayal of our colonial past."
